John Douglass Hooper was born on November 10, 1873, in Hooper, Utah, to John Wilkie and Elizabeth Ann Douglass Hooper. He spent much of his life in Hooper. In 1895, he served an LDS mission to Hawaii. Upon returning, he married Ellen Child in the Salt Lake Temple on December 21, 1899. She died April 27, 1912.
